You do not have to pay to prepare for the LANTITE test. Several universities keep open study guides, and we offer the full literacy and numeracy course on YouTube for free. This page puts the best free resources in one list, in the order to use them.
Note: we created The LANTITE App, so our own material is on the list second, after the official practice test, because the official practice test is a good place to start. The LANTITE App is an expansion of the official material: a free literacy and numeracy YouTube series and 10,000+ practice questions.
The list at a glance
- ACER's official practice test: the most accurate guide to the question style, with worked solutions provided via the PDF.
- The LANTITE App's free material: 69 video lessons, free practice questions for both tests, the numeracy formula sheet and the free blog posts of sample practice questions.
- Curtin UniSkills LANTITE guide: practice question sets, full sample tests and a literacy preparation video, open to anyone, focusing on select skills.
- University library guides: UTS, RMIT, Federation, Melbourne Polytechnic, UNSW and Southern Cross each keep a page of links and advice.
- NESA's LANTITE page: the rules for New South Wales, straight from the regulator.
- Skills refreshers: Khan Academy, BBC Skillswise and ReadTheory for the maths and reading underneath the test. Some of these may go beyond or slightly under the test's requirements, as they are not calibrated to it, but they are good for brushing up on specific things you have in mind.
1. ACER's official practice test
ACER runs the test, so its practice test shows the question style, the difficulty and the scoring. There is one for each component on ACER's practice material page, as a free PDF with worked solutions and the score tables that show how a raw score maps to the standard. No account is needed for this.
Best for: understanding the style of the exam questions, and finding out where you stand. Sit it under time before anything else, then read the working on every question you missed and write down the question types that caught you. Our past papers guide explains how to read the score tables.
2. The LANTITE App's free material
This is ours, so judge it for yourself. All of the below is free and none of it needs a card, however we do have a Premium membership option available.
- 69 video lessons by a teacher, covering every numeracy topic and the literacy skills the test examines. They are on YouTube and inside the app.
- Free LANTITE practice questions for both components, with the full working, and separate sets for numeracy and literacy.
- Every formula you need for LANTITE numeracy, on one page.
- A free account: practice questions for both tests and all 69 lessons. The full question bank and the full-length practice papers need a plan.
Best for: the teaching, and daily practice with feedback on every answer. Guides that go with it: what the LANTITE is, dates and registration, results and pass rates, and what happens if you fail.
3. Curtin University's UniSkills LANTITE guide
Curtin Library's UniSkills LANTITE page is the most complete university resource we have found, and nothing on it is locked to Curtin students. It has full sample tests for each section, short study modules such as numeracy fundamentals and structure and mechanics, and a literacy test preparation video.
Best for: the full sample tests, and the literacy video if the technical skills of writing are your weak spot.
4. University library guides
Most universities with a teaching degree keep a LANTITE page. Many of the workshops on them are for enrolled students, but the link lists and advice are public. They are a good way to see what your university recommends, however most of them can be quite generic.
| University | What is on the page |
|---|---|
| UTS Library | Literacy and numeracy tools, ACER's sample questions and the assessment framework, test-tips courses. |
| RMIT Library | Key resources and a book list pitched at Year 9 and 10 level, the level the test is set at. |
| Federation University | What the test is, literacy and numeracy tools, ACER's practice questions. |
| Melbourne Polytechnic | ACER's tests, the online practice tests that come with registration, and general literacy and numeracy sites. |
| UNSW School of Education | Free literacy and numeracy sites, ACER's material, and a maths drop-in centre for UNSW students. |
| Southern Cross University | ACER's papers and test-taking advice, plus workshops and a practice site for SCU students. |
If your university is not here, search its library site for "LANTITE". The requirements by university guide covers when each one expects you to sit the test.
Tip: it is generally a good idea to familiarise yourself with your uni's LANTITE page, as it may contain some course requirements specific to you.
5. NESA's LANTITE page, for New South Wales
If you will teach in NSW, the rules come from the NSW Education Standards Authority, not from your university. Its LANTITE page sets out what accreditation requires, and since 1 August 2026 you need to have passed both components before applying for Conditional accreditation.
Best for: knowing your deadline. We explain the change and the exceptions in LANTITE and NSW Conditional accreditation.
6. Free skills refreshers the universities recommend
These are not LANTITE practice. They teach the maths and reading underneath it, and they are the sites the university guides above point to most often.
- Khan Academy: free video lessons and exercises for every maths skill in the numeracy test, from fractions and percentages to reading graphs. Work through the Year 7 to Year 9 material if you have not done maths for years.
- BBC Skillswise: short adult literacy and numeracy lessons with worksheets, good for grammar, punctuation and spelling.
- ReadTheory: free reading comprehension passages that adapt to your level, for building the pace you need on the literacy reading questions.
Best for: the one or two skills your practice test said were rusty. Fix the skill here, then go back to test-style questions.
How to use them: four weeks, free
- Week 1, find out where you stand. Sit ACER's practice test for each component under time. Mark it with the worked solutions and write down every question type you missed.
- Week 2, fix the skills. Watch The LANTITE App's YouTube lessons for the topics you missed and, if a skill is properly rusty, work through it on Khan Academy or Skillswise.
- Week 3, build volume. Daily sets: practice questions in The LANTITE App (a free account covers both tests), Curtin's sample tests and ReadTheory passages for reading pace. Keep reading the working on every miss.
- Week 4, rehearse. Sit ACER's practice test again under exam conditions, and practise the no-calculator section on its own at least twice. If you want more full-length papers, The LANTITE App's Premium plans include ten.
The test is 65 questions in two hours per component, 52 with the on-screen calculator and 13 without. In 2025, 87.5 per cent of first-time candidates met the literacy standard and 94.3 per cent met numeracy. Pace and format are what catch people, and every resource on this page is free practice at exactly that.
